Palm Beach: A Luxurious Destination and Lavish Superyacht Hotspot

By Frances Flannagan

Renowned for its luxury offerings and glamorous nature, America’s East Coast town of Palm Beach has unsurprisingly grown to become an internationally popular superyacht destination. The Palm Beach International Boat Show (PBIBS) reflects the town's unparalleled glamour and sophistication, whilst simultaneously benefiting the economy and reinforcing the superyacht industry’s overarching presence within the area.

Palm Beach is the ultimate city of leisure, inviting those who visit to indulge in its extravagance and relax in its serenities. Famous for its tropical climate, Palm Beach is understandably a favoured winter holiday destination, with its year-round sunshine and warmth perfect for trips and superyacht charters during the winter months. Facilitating these visiting yachts is Palm Beach Marina: a world-class facility located in the heart of the town with premium services and berths for superyachts up to 89m.

Abundant with a plethora of premium offerings, visitors can spend their time relishing in Palm Beach’s Norton Museum of Art or Gavlak Gallery, both representing the pinnacle of American and contemporary art. Or, visitors can perhaps spend a leisurely day at Worth Avenue: Palm Beach’s sumptuous palm-lined shopping district, which boasts an array of luxury brands truly reflective of the luxury superyacht lifestyle.

Palm Beach also holds a range of incredible dining opportunities, with some of the top picks being Bice on Worth Avenue, an Italian eatery with exquisite surroundings, and Le Bilboquet, a boutique restaurant perfect for decadent breakfasts, upscale lunches and glitzy dinners.

Alongside these lavish offerings, Palm Beach also boasts a variety of immersive outdoor experiences. The Palm Beach Lake Trail is an all-time favourite: a meandering path on the island’s western side with a dramatic view of Lake Worth Lagoon. Of course, Palm Beach also flaunts arguably the best beaches in South Florida, with 27 beaches spanning 47 miles in total. From snorkelling and surfing to sunbathing and relaxing, there are beaches to suit every individual’s preferences.

With a luxury offering as remarkable as Palm Beach’s it seemed only right for a boat show to add to the growing high-net-worth status. And so launched the first Palm Beach International Boat Show in 1982. Since its inception now over 40 years ago, the show has grown to occupy a significant position in South Florida as a leader in the maritime industry as well as an economic engine to the area. For over four decades, the show has attracted superyacht owners and maritime industry leaders from all over the globe, bolstering tourism and increasing the presence of luxury vessels in Palm Beach. In a 2022 analysis, PBIBS was seen to have a statewide economic impact of over 1.05 billion USD; an illustration of how it is much more than a lavish lifestyle event but a significant contributor to the economy.

The combination of a luxury boat show in a location that is characterised by its luxurious nature is a pairing that has seen great success for over four decades, constantly expanding and continuously benefiting the economy. Palm Beach is a destination that perfectly reflects the essence of the superyacht lifestyle, showcasing how it is a location that will consistently attract superyacht owners and maritime experts from all over the world: a spectacular hub for the superyacht industry.
