Sunreef Yachts Introduces Radical New 40m Explorer Model

By Frances Flannagan

Sunreef Yachts has developed a new 40m explorer model, characterised by being sustainable as well as transatlantic. She has been designed to enable Owners to explore the most remote corners of the world, in an abundance of comfort and luxury.

Sunreef’s 40m Explorer Eco can accommodate up to 10 guests, supported by seven crew members. She features slimmer and more efficient hulls, reducing the amount of energy required to cruise at speed, and is built with Sunreef’s ultralight composite. With the addition of a state-of-the-art electric powertrain, her transatlantic capabilities are enhanced significantly.

Each and every surface of the yacht’s hull and superstructure are able to be turned into a power source due to Sunreef’s proprietary solar skin. This sustainable innovation generates enough power to run every system on board, from the air conditioning to the jacuzzi.

A highlight of her design is the expansive bathing platform aft, which is able to transform into a beach club for lounging, a watersports launchpad or a dive shop. Her fold-down wings expand the platform to run round the corner of the boat, increasing a connection to the water.

Four spacious and bright cabins can be found on the main deck, whilst the upper deck is almost totally dedicated to the Owner’s suite: a secluded oasis of luxury. Her Owner can also benefit from a private terrace, accessed through sliding doors aft.

The guest experience is made as comfortable as possible as the bows slice the water ahead of the yacht, reducing pitching and lessening the energy needed to propel the vessel. Her bows play a significant part in her transatlantic capabilities, alongside the twin 540kW motors with their 10 knot cruising speed.

Her design has been inspired by Mike Horn, an explorer and Sunreef ambassador, who is embarking on a growing collaboration with the brand.

Francis Lapp, CEO at Sunreef, joined him in Greenland as part of his ‘What’s Left’ sailing expedition. Lapp commented: ‘Exploring Greenland under sail with Mike has served as a profound source of motivation for me to continue to act for a sustainable future within the yachting industry.’
