Van der Valk Introduces Largest All-Custom Superyacht Project EVO

By Frances Flannagan

Van der Valk has announced that construction has started on Project EVO: a 40m custom superyacht that will be the largest yacht built by the Dutch yard. Described as a ‘mini-megayacht’, she is set to boast outstanding volumes that are complemented by sleek exterior lines and a stunningly detailed interior.

Project EVO is being constructed for experienced Owners who have owned a number of high-performance vessels. They approached Van der Valk due to the shipyard’s premium quality, with the vision of creating a bespoke yacht for their family.

Naval architects from Diana Yacht Design and Ginton Naval Architects are contributing to this spectacular superyacht, alongside sleek exteriors by SFG Yacht Design, Fancy by Dada and Cristiano Gatto Design, who has also penned a beautifully detailed interior.

The Owners have been involved in every step of Project EVO’s build, inspired by a previous design from Franco Gianni of SFG Yacht Design and Doga Naz Cebeci from Fancy by Dada.

She is an all-aluminium bluewater cruiser that will boast a round bilged fast displacement hull, with the ability to reach an impressive top speed of 24 knots.

Cristiano Gatto, Founder of Cristiano Gatto Design, commented: ‘My participation began on a micro level as we worked with the owners to leverage on some specific furniture design concepts I had previously created. They were looking to recreate a similar ambience onboard their yacht and the interior design emerged from this point. Welcoming the results, the owners asked us to add some of this aesthetic flavour to the exterior design, further evolving the DNA of the preliminary concept penned by SFG and Fancy by Dada. We changed some of the proportions and lines while extending the stern by around two metres.’

Details on Project EVO’s interiors are being kept tightly under wraps, however it has been revealed that she will accommodate 10 guests across first-class accommodation, configured as a master stateroom on the main deck and two twins and two VIPs on the lower deck. The crew will be accommodated across three ensuite double cabins in the forepeak, and the captain’s cabin will be situated on the bridge deck.

It took around 10 months to transition from the initial renders to interior concept, with Project EVO even considered a mini-megayacht due to her exceptional design and stylings.

‘It is clear that Van der Valk is one of the few yards with the capacity and flexibility to build fully custom superyachts in this size range,’ commented Yoeri Bijker, Head of Sales at Van der Valk. ‘This 40-metre beauty is based upon an existing engineered platform that is proven in terms of naval architecture. Project EVO is a fine example of how clients can come to Van der Valk with their own exterior designers without having to reinvent the wheel with a new hull, safe in the knowledge that their yacht will excel in terms of performance, speed and stability.’
