Sparkman & Stephens

In 1929, Sparkman & Stephens was incorporated by Drake Sparkman, an established yacht broker, and the Stephens brothers, Olin and Rod, Jr., both promising young designers In 1931, Dorade (S&S Design No. 7) won the Trans-Atlantic Race, earning the new firm monumental accolades within the yachting community.

Olin is said to have been the thinker and innovator, while Rod was a talented yachtsman with exceptional mechanical skills – the two formed a well-balanced design team. S&S has striven to this day to employ a team that balances form and function, just as the Stephens brothers did.

Perhaps best known for the success of their sailing yachts, many of which have won internationally recognised races, the company also works with motor yachts and employs state-of-the-art techniques and technologies to meet any need despite the size or difficulty of the project.

Sparkman & Stephens’ design team works from a studio on New York’s Fifth Avenue and consists of a group of naval architects, marine engineers and yacht designers. The company prides itself on offering its clients professionalism, experience, honesty and knowledge.

S&S specialise in the complete design and engineering of new vessels, as well as offering similar design and engineering services to existing yachts for the purpose of performance optimization and enhancement.

Existing designs
Even well after a client has taken delivery of their S&S designed yacht, the studio offers exceptional support to owners. This includes everything from access to historical and technical data, to the reproduction of plans and simple advice.

Yacht Brokerage and Sales
A full range of yacht brokerage services are offered to clients regardless of type and size. S&S is available to represent both buyer and seller in everything from marketing, advertising, listing services and re-sale support.

Yacht Chartering
In conjunction with its brokerage listings, S&S offers charter services in a number of worldwide locations aboard both crewed and bareboat yachts.

Marine Insurance
S&S also offers marine insurance coverage for yachts of any size to provide added protection and security for their clients’ investments.
