Omega Architects
Omega Architects – member of The Royal Institute of Dutch Architects – was founded by Frank Laupman in 1995. Omega Architects is a creative agency working in yacht design, architectural design, interior design, and more. We are an interdisciplinary team of creative, passionate people based in Holland. The firm consists of 15 architects, (interior) designers and engineers. Our clients are captains of industry, shipbuilders, developers, local governments, corporations, and private persons. These three design facets of Architecture, Interior, and Yacht Design all interact together to form a multi disciplinary design vision for a creative team that has been unrivalled in capability and accomplishment in Holland since 1995.
Frank Laupman graduated in 1981 with a masters degree in architecture and city planning and worked for OD 205, the architects firm that was responsible for all the sites and buildings for the Universities of Delft and Eindhoven in Holland. Frank was attracted by both architecture and design, and pursued a varied array of design outlets, from architecture to car styling. As his career progressed, Frank developed an interest in the design of large yachts, as he has always thought of yacht design as a merger of architecture and other design disciplines. He joined the PB Design Team of Pieter Beeldsnijder between 1983 and 1985, where he began working seriously in yacht design. After this period, he joined Heesen Yachts’ Diaship Team as the key designer for the in house Design Team, where he developed the now iconic ‘streamline’ image of the Heesen fleet.
In 1995 Laupman formed his own design firm, in order to revive his architectural ambitions, and allow even more creative freedom in yacht design. With his own firm, he was also able to set up an interior department, which he considers to be a ‘trait-d’ union’ between architecture and design. The result has been a symbiosis, or synergy, of architecture and design.
