Brilliant Boats

Brilliant Boats is a naval architecture and marine engineering consultancy founded by Michael Schutte. After ten years of working behind the scenes on projects from fast ferries, to large motor yachts, this six-strong team is now stealing the limelight for itself.

Michael Schutte holds degrees in Industrial Design and Naval Architecture. After 25 years as a design professional, and over 15 years as a Naval Architect, he and the Brilliant Boats team offer a powerful combination of design flair, creative solutions based on real-world manufacturing experience, and first-class 3D design and engineering tools.

Hydrodynamics
Every Brilliant Boats hull is designed specifically for each vessel. Hull shapes are developed from the outset in 3D, and evolve with the vessel. The virtual hull is evaluated in a variety of conditions in the computers and optimized for its target weight and speed. With the yacht’s design finalized, a scale model of the hull is produced and tested in a towing tank at a variety of speeds, displacements and sea states.

Any final tweaks to further optimize can be made to the virtual hull model before a final hull design is issued for construction. Resistance and propulsion data compiled from towing tank results allow precise tuning of the mechanical package to ensure the very best performance and range.

Brilliant Boats also designs custom hydrodynamic devices such as bespoke stabilizer systems, trim tabs, and lifting foils for industrial and private customers.

Style
Brilliant Boats’ chief stylist is almost always the client. The team believe that each yacht should reflect a client’s individual requirements, ideas, and personal style. As designers and stylists, the Brilliant Boats team produce the best boat for each and every one of their clients.

Structural Engineering
Brilliant Boats has designed and built vessels in carbon fibre and Nomex, steel, aluminium, wood and FRP. They design for efficient construction in a variety of materials, depending on individual vessel requirements, budgets, and the build partner's expertise.

Brilliant Boats has decades of real world project support experience, having been involved in many significant yacht projects in partnership with some of the best know names in the business. Project support services include creative, architectural and engineering services in addition to:
