Launched in 2001, Whisper is the first hull of the successful SW 78 miniseries: thanks to Reichel Pugh naval architecture, the yacht boasts slippery hull lines, a fin and bulb keel. General arrangement plan, deck layout and interior systems were drawn by the Italian designers Nauta Design, while the composite structural engineering for the cored Kevlar and carbon hull was undertaken by the UK-based SP Technologies.
Whisper is a cruiser-racers, ideal both for bluewater navigation and competitive races: her deck layout provides a large guest cockpit together with a sunbath area, well separated from the sailing cockpit. The Southern Spars carbon fiber mast is the first swept spreader rig to be fitted to a Southern Wind yacht .
Below decks, Whisper features a classic teak-lined saloon with blue upholstery, a teak and holly floor and a white ceiling. The stairway of the latter leads to the saloon which makes use of the full beam of the yacht. This area provides room for a dining table for 8/10 seats, plus a conversation area opposite with a projector for cinema quality DVD and TV on a drop-down screen. The saloon is also provided with a refrigerator and an icemaker.
Accommodation includes a large and spacious master cabin in the stern, with one double bunk and a separate single bunk, a twin cabin and a single guest cabin with a foldable bunk, all with en suite facilities. Forward of the galley, is a three-pipe cot crew cabin in the bows. The yacht offers plenty of storage room in all its areas.
