Dalmore Oculus highlights Bonhams record whisky sale

The one-off Dalmore Oculus whisky touted as one of the world’s most precious definitely lived up to its reputation when it fetched £27,600 last week at Bonham’s most successful whisky auction ever.

Held on November 18 at Bonhams Edinburgh, the auction saw over 90 percent of all lots sold for a total of £211,518, making it the best in history for the auction house in terms of value.

The extremely rare Dalmore Oculus was easily the highlight of the auction; a unique drop produced from some of the most outstanding whiskies produced in the last 140 years.

Far exceeding its pre-sale estimate of £15,000 to £20,000, the bottle became the most expensive Dalmore whisky ever purchased with its final total of £27,600.

The Dalmore Oculus was presented in a Baccarat crystal decanter embellished with a carefully crafted solid silver iconic stag and houses in a bespoke presentation case.

Other popular lots included a Black Bowmore-1964 first edition and a final edition, both of which surpassed their estimates and sold for £2,100; and The Macallan-56 year old-1946 which went for £1,980.
