Week Commencing 2 May 2011

Another week, another memorable Superyachts.com event. This time seven days ago I was gearing up for a lavish party that would see some of the world’s finest brands congregate for an evening of high-end decadence.

But even I couldn’t have predicted the response when three of Maybach’s finest rocked up at the opulent Palm Island home that had been generously lent to us for the evening by Tom Sullivan.

If the 100-plus guests that had descended on the beautiful property thought their indulgences wouldn’t stretch beyond champagne, vodka and ocean views, that was all about to change when they were invited into the magnificent cars that endorsed the theory that beauty isn’t skin deep.

The looks on their faces spoke volumes. Like Miami itself, Maybach don’t do things by half.

It’s always difficult to follow such occasions, but a quick glance around the world of luxury this week revealed that plenty of other luxury brands have been busy recently with new offerings for the world’s connoisseurs.

Most eye-catching has been the photos released of the new Ritz-Carlton hotel in Abu Dhabi, which is due to open later this year. The hotel looks simply incredible, offering a panoramic view of lavish bricks and mortar that seems to go on and on. You can only imagine what the inside will look like.

Elsewhere we’ve seen the unveiling of a stunning new limited-edition James Bond book, based on Bond’s favourite Bentley motorcar, an aviation-inspired timepiece by
Bell & Ross, and much more. Enjoy!
