French luxury goods brand Hermès have created a new pocket watch featuring gold marquetry and hand engraving.

Renowned for their lavish Arceau pocket watches, Hermès’ latest design, the Arceau Pocket Volutes, is perhaps their most extravagant yet.

The “volutes” part of the name refers to the watch’s scrolling pattern adorning its cover that goes back to the origins of the brand and are inspired by a design by artist Henri d’Origny for a Hermès silk carré in 1972.

Requiring almost 150 hours of work for its surface construction alone, the new pocket watch boasts two white gold and rose gold discs that were crafted separately before being assembled and welded together in a furnace of flames.

Other notable features include grand feu enamelling in the dial, a cord-strap and pouch in matt Havana alligator leather, a Manufacture mechanical self-winding H1928 movement, and a 55-hour power reserve.

Founded by Thierry Hermès in 1837, Hermès has grown to become one of the world’s most iconic luxury brands.
