Single malt Scotch whisky distillery Macallan has introduced a delicate new spirit into its Fine & Rare collection.

Dubbed the 1977, the novel whisky finds its origin in an ex-sherry hogshead that was laid down to create history on 27 September 1977.

After being aged carefully for 40 years, the Macallan 1977 is now ready to be imbibed. The rich and dark amber tone of the whisky is what is said to be its biggest attraction.

The palette of the new Macallan offers flavours of wood spice, sweet citrus and soft peal, with undertones of fruit and oak, while it wafts of citrus fruit and lemon zest, sweet apples, vanilla and wood smoke in the background.

According to Nick Savage, the master distiller at Macallan, “The full, rich, classic Macallan body holds the supporting characters of sweet apples and vanillas, to give an all-encompassing whisky.”

Only 151 bottles of the limited edition 1977 by Macallan will be made available, with each costing $15,000.

Based in Scotland since 1824, The Macallan Estate has a global reputation as one of the world’s finest distillers of single malt whisky.
