In recent years the dating market has been transformed by the emergence of online apps such as Tinder, and now the watch market could be about to undergo a similar renaissance.

Swiss company WatchAdvisor, which claims to be the world’s biggest database for timepieces, has launched the “WatchTinder” service in the US in partnership with watch e-retailer Troverie.

The online database has already been helping watch enthusiasts across Europe to research, compare and choose their perfect timepiece, and now the service will cater to American watch lovers too.

The WatchTinder service works in a similar fashion to the Tinder dating app and makes a match based on several declared preferences.

Users are asked a set of lifestyle questions, including preferred watch types, and are asked to choose between options such as “luxurious and distinguished,” “luxurious and recognisable,” “affordable and distinguished,” or “affordable and recognizable” timepieces.

Based on their preferences, WatchTinder then creates a personalised list of matches from over 250 brands you can swipe through.

Once the user is matched with the perfect watch, the service connects with Troverie to allow for the watch to be purchased. Users can also build a Pinterest-like of watches if they desire.
