The fair displayed a staggering array of exhibits, ranging from 18th century paintings to antique furniture, modern art, jewellery, classic cars and much more.
Arguably the stand-out piece was the world’s only remaining prototype Spitfire – a fighter plane used by Britain during the Second World War. Seeing the iconic aircraft sitting amongst the more conventional exhibits offered a bizarre but fascinating juxtaposition.
Whilst at the fair, we took the opportunity to sit down with Victoria Bennett, Marketing Director for Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, who were showcasing a Phantom Drophead Coupé that had been created and customised exclusively for Masterpiece. Our video interview with Victoria, and some stunning shots of the car, can be viewed in this week’s newsletter.
Also at the show, we grabbed a word with a brand ambassador for Louis XIII, the illustrious cognac makers, who were displaying a brand new €16,000 decanter.
Elsewhere this week, we had an exclusive interview with Mike Balfour, founder of The Hideaways Club, an ultra-exclusive members club that gives customers part-ownership and usage of hundreds of beautiful properties across the world. Mr Balfour proved to be a fascinating interview subject, combining passion with good old-fashioned business sense. An inspiration to us all.
Furthermore, we report on some stunning luxury launches that have taken place recently, including two beautiful pieces representing both the past and the present – a jewel-covered mobile phone from Vertu, and a stunning gold and ivory statue depicting the famous historical figure of Napoleon. History and modernity in perfect harmony. Enjoy!
