Notes From The Editor

Week Commencing 27 August 2012

The French Riviera is awash with beautiful villas and apartments, many dating back to the 19th century and built to reflect the wealth and standing of their owners. In this week’s newsletter we feature four such properties, offering a taste of what prospective buyers can find in one of Europe’s most prestigious regions.

Each property has its own distinctive architectural flavour, with their inspiration ranging from medieval castles to Roman villas, but they all share the common hallmarks of luxury. We’ll be featuring several such properties in the coming months, so be sure to check out our newsletters for a look at what can be found in the South of France right now, and for how much.

Elsewhere this week, there’s news from the Pebble Beach car show in California, which saw the unveiling of several sensational models, including the McLaren X-1 Concept Sports Car. The one-off model is based on McLaren’s MP4-12C and was created for an “anonymous car enthusiast” who had requested a car made exclusively for himself.

There’s also a beautiful new timepiece from luxury Swiss watch-makers Breitling, and special edition versions of Hart Audio’s acclaimed D&W Aural Pleasure Loudspeakers – including one pair made of 18-karat gold and priced at a cool £3 million.

Finally, we report on the new Phantom Coupé Aviator Collection by iconic British car brand Rolls-Royce, another launch that took place at Pebble Beach last week. Strictly limited to 35 models worldwide, the new Phantom is billed as “celebrating the spirit of human endeavour” and features several nods to Rolls-Royce co-founder Charles Stewart Rolls – an influential figure not only in the automotive world but also in aviation.

Enjoy our newsletter, and have a great week.
