Hurricane Run Yacht
Motor Yacht Hurricane Run
Hurricane Run is a 53.50m (175’6”) Feadship yacht built by Koninklijke De Vries Scheepsbouw at its yard in Aalsmeer, the Netherlands. She features exterior styling and naval architecture by De Voogt Naval Architects and showcases a unique monochrome interior from Terence Disdale Design.
Main Deck
The main entrance to Hurricane Run offers a striking foretaste of what is to come. An open, mirror-backed staircase generates a tremendous feeling of space, and its dramatic curvature above and below looks fabulous from every angle.
Main lounge/cinema and dining area
The light and airy impression continues in the enormous main lounge and dining room with oversized windows allowing plenty of natural light. The owners have the choice of an open-plan arrangement instead of two separate rooms. In the evenings, this is the perfect setting in which to enjoy dining with family and friends and relax in front of a good film.
The lounge area is decorated with big screen icons such as Marilyn Monroe and Brigitte Bardot, while specific lighting modes have been designed to optimize the cinematic vibe. One click of a switch is sufficient to have the grey blackout blinds descending as a huge television silently slides up from the starboard cabinet. The long white sofa allows ten or more guests to stretch out and enjoy the show.
The cream coloured hand-rippled leather on the walls unites the lounge and dining areas. The dining area features a twelve-seater table and large cabinet finished in black shagreen. In addition to the formal dining area on the main deck, another twelve people can dine on the bridge deck and twenty on the sun deck above.
Owner’s stateroom
The owners’ stateroom starts with a study area on the starboard side. Everything required for a properly functioning office is in place, including wireless internet (also accessible with a laptop from virtually anywhere onboard). The master suite itself introduces shades of brown into the monochrome palette. This elaborate and high-end area showcases all the visual and tactile elements of Disdale’s creative genius, and the De Vries yard’s ability to translate these concepts into tangible form.
Most of the materials have a natural organic feel, from the Jakarta Sage leather on the bed and rippled silver ceiling dome recess above, to the bleached horn desks to the wonderful nautical triptych. The stateroom also has two classical Gilbert bronze statues; polished furniture in three-tone black lacquer and hand carved wood and pewter skin on the doors. This plethora of contrasting textures makes the bedroom exceptionally intriguing.
The sophisticated dressing room is clean and simple, offering a contrast in materials. It also provides access to two identical bathrooms, both with large showers, a vanity table and a wealth of storage in round lacquered cabinets. Natural grey limestone abounds here, and the heated floors are a feature found in many places onboard Hurricane Run.
Bridge Deck
The main social meeting point onboard Hurricane Run is undoubtedly the large lounge and aft deck area on the bridge deck. Grey is the predominant colour, with the use of a limestone floor without any carpet which required considerable research to ensure against noise transduction and vibration. A large sofa has an abstract black and white nautical triptych above, whilst the other finishes and ceiling continue the themes found elsewhere. The bar is a very unique piece, made of gun metal, studded pewter, chrome, nickel and stainless steel.
The sliding doors to the aft deck can open almost completely. Once they are fully the entire lounge and deck become one united area for entertainment and relaxation. The circular table is limestone, and with lots of seating made of silver-grey coloured synthetic wicker this offers a convivial atmosphere for dining for up to twelve people.
A highly sophisticated integrated bridge system in the wheelhouse area revolves around five interchangeable screens that can display virtually anything from alarm and monitoring systems to radar, bilge pipes to generator propulsion.
Sundeck
The sundeck is wind protected by the introduction of sliding glass retracting doors. It is also a fully-fledged entertainment area. In fact, the entire yacht benefits from a powerful multi-zone sound and visual system, with interconnected matrices offering superb quality from central A/V sources. A superb place day and night, the sun deck is divided into several relaxation zones. Aft is the sunbathing area, with deck loungers and sun umbrellas. Under the shade of the mast we find various tables with sufficient space for up to twenty people to dine, and in the centre is a giant bar with four stools. A sliding glass screen between the bar and the Jacuzzi forward offers a windbreak.
Forward of the tub is a beautiful seating area with hi-lo table, which converts into a multi sunbathing area. The sundeck can also be extended to create a helicopter landing pad, with a section of the aft bulwark being made of lightweight and easily removable composites.
Lower Deck
Hurricane Run provides excellent accommodation for eight guests in four staterooms on the lower deck, comprising two double suites and two twins.
A harmony of finishes, surfaces, lacquers, wood colours and handles brings continuity to the four staterooms, each of which have a dressing room area with sound-proofed doors. All four bathrooms are exceptionally elegant, with large glass showers and stone basins. The double cabins forward are slightly larger, with baths and two basins instead of one.
