Ghost Yachts G180 - New Semi-custom Yacht

Ghost Yachts have unveiled their first project to the public: the Ghost Yachts G180. Having teamed up with Italian company Gloss Design, this 180 foot semi-custom yacht embodies the best aspects of the contemporary superyacht industry: stylish Italian design and advanced Dutch engineering and technology.

Björn Moonen, the founder of Ghost Yachts, wanted a yacht that was “instantly recognizable and modern”. He also wanted something functional that would suit the market for large, tri-deck yachts. Gloss Design fulfilled these specifications and produced a form that was stylish, cutting edge and production friendly, and which allowed flexibility in the interior layout.

The layout of G180 is unlike any other. The owners' stateroom has been relocated to the upper deck where it offers more natural light, better views on the yacht's surroundings and a more flexible way to use the second salon at the aft. It can either be used as an annex for the owners' stateroom or separated from the stateroom in case extra space is required for social events. Generous guest rooms have been planned on the forward main deck where they use space efficiently. The lower deck offers two VIP suites which are equipped with a separate lounge where the guests can enjoy a private moment after an exhilarating day at sea.

The G180’s exterior is a beautifully proportioned design that combines power and grace. Lighting angles are used to emphasise the shape of the yacht and her distinctive bow. There are no frills or styling gimmicks. In fact, the designers have deliberately avoided all unnecessary details in favour of graceful simplicity. The result is a harmonious combination of clear lines and smooth surfaces.

The yachts hull has been designed to keep emissions to a minimum. This is the work of Dutch Naval Architects Van Oossanen & Associates who, over the past 10 years, have developed the Fast Displacement Hull Form, a hull which has less resistance compared to other hull forms on the market, and is capable of reaching semi-displacement speeds in excess of 20 knots. The vertical bow configuration is a deliberate attempt to improve the G180’s sea-keeping abilities and also to enlarge the interior volume in the forward part of the lower and main deck. The benefits of the extra space resulted in larger crew accommodations and a tender storage on the main deck that can hold an 8.5 metre guest tender and a 6 metre crew tender.

The G180's technical platform has been developed to be as sustainable and production friendly as possible. The production engineering of the Ghost Yachts' G180 is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2010.
