Vripack Yacht Design Reveals New 60m Explorer Project Supernova

By Frances Flannagan

Vripack Yacht Design has unveiled Project Supernova: a new 60m explorer based on the studio’s proven platform, with a 6m extension on the original 54m hull. She boasts the epitome of luxury-living, with a cigar lounge, a large helipad and a dedicated Owner’s deck.

Project Supernova boasts a number of advancements from the proven platform which she is based on, including a reshaped bow, refined exterior and a brand new interior design. Built for an Owner with a passion for exploration, she has been built to withstand everything from diving in warmer climates to heli-skiing in the coldest of environments.

‘He’s an adventurous boat loving owner who also happens to be a highly experienced helicopter pilot, very experienced sailor and an avid diver,’ commented Marnix Hoekstra, Co-Creative Director at Vripack. ‘He’s always on the move and wanted a yacht that can keep up.’

She boasts an array of standout features to cater to her Owner’s adventurous preferences, including an expansive beach club on the lower deck with fold-down platforms and a well-equipped dive centre. Project Supernova has also been built to ensure fluidity across her design, with stepped access from the beach club to the main deck aft creating an interconnected loop. This was a result of the Owner’s request for a ‘no door design’, also achieved in an open-plan layout, with drop down balconies in the main salon.

Ensuring maximum accessibility across both the sea and sky, the bridge deck aft is home to a large helipad, with an integrated crane to carry and launch a big submersible and tenders. Two 12m containers can also be housed to carry a range of expedition gear.

Project Supernova’s interior design brief was for a contemporary take on classic American, characterised by dark and moody wood panelling and a grey, blue and brown colour palette. These elements are accented by the sophisticated additions of bronze plating, soft leathers, textured walls and oak furniture.

Reflecting the creative and innovative nature of Vripack, Project Supernova features a double glass walkway on both sides of the yacht forward, which has resulted in a transparent crew passage. Whilst maintaining easy service access, it also ensures that views of the ocean aren’t blocked from the main salon, cultivating an ongoing connection with the outdoor environment.

‘It creates an infinite feeling enhanced by reflections from mirror and glass so it’s not apparent where the interior ends and the exterior begins,’ commented Hoekstra. ‘It was those types of details that the owner loved, as he said we took a different approach to typical yacht design.’

A balance between outdoor exploration and relaxed luxury can be seen in the forward cigar lounge: a dedicated space for the Owner to relax with his friends and contain smoke to just one area of the yacht.

The main deck features a large full-beam VIP, whilst four guest cabins can be found on the lower deck. The master suite is located on a dedicated Owner’s deck, benefitting from private access to the forward and aft decks as well as an exterior fire pit. A sun deck can be found at the very top of Project Supernova, boasting a jacuzzi, bar, loungers and spectacular views.

The existing 54m hull is currently for sale with IYC: an unmissable opportunity for a prospective Owner ready to hit the ground running.
