Sailing yacht Antares of Grand Cayman, built in 2005 by Dutch shipyard Royal Huisman, is a unique display of design that manages to be both bold and subtle. Featuring naval architecture and exterior design by the renowned Dixon Yacht Design and the interior work of Rhoades Young Design, the 40m ketch sleeps eight guests.

Named for Aries, the Greek god of War, Antares reflects her namesake with the boldness of her superstructure born from complex multi-directional curves that run the entire length of the deck down into the aft adjoining cockpit.

Antares’ owner required she be subtle in outward appearance; displaying the results of dedicated and painstaking craftsmanship and design without employing extremities. He also dictated she be able to withstand the changing styles of time and not date as the years passed.

The deck is undoubtedly the heart of the luxury vessel, created to be simple and clean while conjuring the idea of being contiguous. To reflect this design desire, the commanding helm station with its two cockpit links to the main cockpit and allows the helms person to keep an eye on everything on deck.

The helmsman’s seats are powered by an electric motor and cleverly controlled by joysticks which allow them to be adjusted to suit the angle of heel and point of sail.

Amongst her innovative highlights is a swim platform which maximizes safety through its fold-down process. When unfolding, a retracting section of the bulwark recesses into the transom to create a seamless stern platform with the need to step over.

The interior design of Antares of Grand Cayman is based around the core focus of free standing furniture pieces rather than general matching furniture panels. French Walnut features heavily in cabinets, seating areas, and sideboards while soft leather wall panels create a soothing influence. The way in which her aft deck flows seamlessly into the saloon is another design highlight.

Antares has no power assistance in her mechanical steering system but instead relies on her expert design and engineering.
