Sail Yacht Barracuda- Scanu SY 150'  Motor Sailer

The 46m (105’) aluminium motor sailer is designed by Barracuda Yacht Design in Madrid and Studio Scanu from Viareggio. The new yacht is being constructed at the Alu International Shipyard and Y.B.M. in Gdansk.

The 105’ superyacht is intended for a dynamic 42 year old Spanish client who, since the project started, decided to formalise a long-term agreement with Alu International to build and market further examples of this kind of superyacht under the ‘Best Boat’ brand name.

The new yacht more closely resembles a sailing yacht than a motor sailer, even though primary propulsion will be provided via twin 725hp engines for a cruising speed of 14knots.

A fully carbon-fibre cutter-style rig, with hydraulic controls and captive winches and sail area of 880sq.m will ensure the new 45m is an exciting yacht to sail.

Other key external features include a 60ft fly-bridge, where the main steering and sail
control systems are located, and where plenty of informal seating and sun bathing areas can be found. From a discreet position on the foredeck, a 19ft dinghy can be launched via crane, whereupon this space doubles as a plunge pool with dinghy removed.

At the stern a large hydraulic door opens to become a swimming platform, whilst a large under deck garage will house an additional dinghy, jet-skis, scuba equipment and other fun and safety related equipment.
Underneath the hull a pneumatically operated dagger-board offers the flexibility of deep and shallow draught cruising. Extending from 3.4m draught when raised down to 6.85m fully extended.

Inside the new yacht an un-fussy, modern and simple look and feel will prevail. Above all the requirement was to provide a welcoming and very comfortable environment for the owner and his young family.

Wenge will be used for most of the furniture and panelling, which will be trimmed with leather and intended to contrast well with the mainly teak-laid flooring. Considerable thought has been given to the use of internal lighting on board and to the intelligent installation of the air conditioning system and location of the outlet vents.

The main deck houses the formal dining and saloon areas and access to the aft and side deck areas with further external seating. At the forward end is the fully enclosed bridge area with captains cabin immediately behind. A feature spiral staircase located just to the rear of the mast leads down to the guest cabins via a central lobby area on the accommodation deck.

A discreet separate crew stairway has been incorporated from the day pantry, offering access to the galley, laundry and service areas, without the need to enter the dining area un-necessarily.

Towards the rear of the 45m accommodation for eight people comprises a full width
owner’s stateroom, with two en-suite bathrooms, and doorway access to two twin berth children’s (or guest) en-suite cabins. A further en-suite double cabin is situated slightly further forward on the starboard side.

At the forward end a maximum eight crew can be accommodated, in three en-suite bunkbed cabins plus the Captains cabin on the main deck. A large laundry, galley area and crew mess complete the services area of the boat.
The engines and twin generators are located in the engine room aft of the accommodation area, with direct access to side deck and aft garage.
