Northrop & Johnson - Office & People
Northrop and Johnson was founded in 1955 with a first office serving New York’s Long Island Sound Yachting Community. They quickly grew to earn the moniker “Gentlemen Brokers” as a result of conducting business in the “Yankee” tradition of honesty and integrity. Today Northrop and Johnson is one of the world’s oldest and most respected brokerages with offices throughout the United States and Europe.
The Fort Lauderdale and San Diego locations have expanded into a true full service brokerage firm by providing yacht sales, new construction, charter, charter management, and yacht management. As well as the first and only firm to provide yachting industry professional placement services in conjunction with yacht crew placement. For more information on this and the many other services offered by the Fort Lauderdale or San Diego office please visit www.njyachts.com or contact us at (954)522-3344, info@njyachts.com.
With roots as early as 1959, the Florida office began in Miami, but was moved to the “Venice of America” as Fort Lauderdale quickly became a yachting center due to its expansive and intricate system of canals. There are 165 miles of waterways within the city limits.
In 1990, Kevin Merrigan took over the already established Fort Lauderdale, Florida office and expanded the location to offer a full service Luxury Collection portfolio including Yacht Charters, Management and Crew Placement. Today, the Fort Lauderdale office flourishes amidst the natural hammock and riverside location only to be found in South Florida.
Since the 1850’s San Diego has been an epicenter for yachting on the West Coast of the United States. In 1852, an organized yacht club was formed for the purpose of boating for pleasure in San Diego. Located near Shelter Island, the San Diego office has the privilege of being situated in the midst of year-round yacht activity.
In 2008, Kevin Merrigan opened the San Diego location to provide luxury services to his bi-coastal clientele. The West Coast location continues to grow with experience and poise within the yachting industry.
