    Providenciales (Turks and Caicos)

    The best way to explore the Dominican Republic is often by combining it with other areas of the Bahamas and Caribbean. The Turks and Caicos and Bahamas both lie temptingly close by. Here, your journey begins from Providenciales in the Turks and Caicos which lies north of the DR. Enjoy a day exploring the luxurious amenities of the area including a golf course, casino, shopping centres and restaurants. This island has some of the very best snorkelling and diving in the Caribbean so for those who like to explore the world beneath the water, it is a must-see. Provo is also home to an international airport and several marinas which make it an excellent starting point.

    Montecristi Bay
    Montecristi Bay

    Depart the Turks and Caicos today and set sail for the Bay of Montecristi at the north-west end of the DR. Montecristi is a large and beautiful bay of pristine water protected from all but the rare north-westerly wind. A good place to dock is the sheltered yacht club framed by the tremendous mountain of EL Morro. Superb white sand beaches can be found here as can kilometres of deep water canals to explore by tender or bathe.

    Depart the Bay this morning to cruise the DR’s remarkable Amber Coast which supports the island’s most superb beaches. The main port for visiting this striking area is in Puerto Plata, an area featuring all-inclusive resorts, first-class casinos and golf courses. Oceanworld Marina is the place to dock here, a modern and secure area for crafts of all sizes. Nearby can be found plenty of opportunities for shopping or you can visit the Dolphin Park, excellent restaurants or take a cable-car up to Mount Isabel.

    Cayo Laventado
    Cayo Laventado

    Today you will enter the mouth of Samana Bay’s north side to discover the island of Cayo Laventado. Soft sandy beaches, lush vegetation and graceful palm-trees set the scene of the island which offers guests small gift shops, a beach cocktail-bar and restaurants. You cannot anchor here the night so depart after lunch for the next port of call. Considered a not-to-be-missed anchorage in the DR, Bahia de San Lorenzo (Los Haitisis National Park) is full of staggering scenery from misty mountains to rolling verdant hills and captivating wildlife. Explore the area by kayak and discover the natural caves. You will have to pay a small fee to stop here but it is well worth it to experience such a timeless and truly private piece of the world.

    Depart today for the lovely Samana Bay, passing an endless number of wonderful beaches where you can stop and swim if you like. Anchor in Santa Barbara where you can head ashore to explore the local area. A walk along the causeway that borders the southern side of the Harbour rewards with a lovely view of the eastern side of the bay facing Cayo Levantado The town dock is the jumping off point for whale watching tours in the winter while not far inland lie the delights of the El Limon waterfalls.

    For your final night onboard there is no better place to be then the evening party capital of the south coast, Boca Chica. During the day, stroll down the charming high street with its gift shops, cafes, restaurants and unique boutiques or enjoy the fabulous beaches.

    Santo Domingo

    Today marks an end to your adventure in the DR and your arrival in the nation’s capital. Santo Domingo is where the most luxurious offerings on the island can be found and there are plenty of green parks, ancient streets, elegant restaurants and chic clubs to discover.
