For a glimpse into the rough and rural yet deeply beautiful heart of Australia’s North West Coast, this two-week itinerary has it all. From tumbling waterfalls that seem to drop from the sky to multi-coloured rainforests rich in captivating wildlife, an adventure to the Kimberlys is ideal for those who love spectacular scenes, excellent fishing, and a real escape to nature.

  • Day 1
    Wyndham to Berkley River

    Begin your Australian adventure from the town of Wyndham; located on the Cambridge Gulf it is the most northerly town and harbour in Western Australia. This small Kimberley town is home to a great Crocodile Park and excellent views from the Bastion. Spend the morning exploring these delights or fishing before you set off. Your destination for the afternoon is Berkley River where cruising through the glassy waters brings you towering cliffs and the sight of Mount Casuarina in the distance. Jump in the tender and approach the staggering Casuarina Falls before heading ashore for an invigorating bush walk. Set sail for King George River in the evening and stop in Koolama Bay.

  • Day 2
    King George River

    Today brings you to King George River full of breathtaking scenery which peaks with the sight of the Twin Falls that plunge over sheer sandstone cliffs into the salt water below. This is Kimberley Gorge country at its most awe-inspiring and the area offers a range of spots to explore. Hike to the top of the falls, take the helicopter up for a scenic tour, discover an idyllic swimming hole, or fish for barramundi and mangrove jack.

  • Day 3
    King George River to Vansittart Bay

    This morning enjoy a few more hours exploring King George River before setting off for the sublime sands to be found at Tranquil Bay. In the afternoon hoist anchor and sail to Vansittart Bay; a wonderful spot for fishing, the area is also host to a wreck of a DC3 plane from World War II. Enjoy a peaceful evening onboard drinking in the private surroundings and eating under the stars.

  • Day 4
    Vansittart Bay to Mitchell River

    An excellent opportunity awaits today to visit some of the world’s oldest rock paintings, etched by the Aborigines in times long past. Glimpse the controversial ‘Bradshaw figures’ provide a captivating window into a lost civilisation. In the afternoon set sail for the Mitchell Plateau which will be the base for the evening.

  • Day 5
    Mitchell River

    The Mitchell River is famous for its first-class barramundi fishing and an opportunity to cast a line in these fish-rich waters is not to be missed. If fishing is not your thing however, take the tender up river to Surveyor’s Creek, a delightful location for a fresh picnic lunch beside the freshwater pools. The Mitchell Falls are another destination highlight and are best explored by taking the helicopter up. In the evening cruise towards the great Hunter River.

  • Day 6
    Hunter River

    Awake this morning amongst the glory of the Hunter River; the most extensive belt of rainforest in Western Australia backed by red cliffs. Head ashore to explore the immense mix of forest, cliffs and wildlife that offers up such activities as mud crabbing and hiking.

  • Day 7
    St George Basin

    Today sees you cruising towards St George Basin which lies in the shadow of the tremendous Mount Trafalgar. On the way you will sail through Careening Bay besides being a significant historical site is famed for its bubbling whirlpools and turbulent tidal waters. Glimpse the Mermaid Boab Tree here where King Cascade inscribed the name of his vessel.

  • Day 8
    Prince Regent River

    Depart St George in the morning and head up the Prince Regent River to the terraced waterfall of the King’s Cascades. This area is home to some of the region’s largest saltwater crocodiles which can be easily glimpsed as you sail the River. If you’re feeling adventurous, climb to the top of the Falls and swim in the welcoming freshwater pools. Anchor at the mouth of Camp Creek for the evening.

  • Day 9
    Camp Creek

    Spend this morning exploring the scenic waters of Camp Creek before setting course to Montgomery Reef where the tidal range often approaches 12 meters. Here, amongst these phenomenal tides can be found a massive waterfall in the ocean’s midst which plays home to a vast array of marine life from turtles and manta rays to sharks and dugongs.

  • Day 10
    Sale River

    Today is a leisurely one spent exploring the Sale River. Get the watertoys on the water or swim in the freshwater creek surrounded by pristine rainforest. Raft Point makes for a good overnight anchorage.

  • Day 11
    Ruby Falls to Buccaneer Archipelago

    The relatively newly-discovered Ruby Falls is a wonderful spot to enjoy a refreshing swim under the waterfall or a picnic lunch. Hike or fish the local hot-spots before heading to the Buccaneer Archipelago which includes more than 800 islands stretching south east. Anchor for the evening in Yampi Sound and enjoy a night of entertainment onboard.

  • Day 12
    Cockatoo Island

    Set sail this morning for another member of the Buccaneer Archipelago in Cockatoo Island. Spend the morning gathering oysters at Coppermine Creek or a swim under the waterfall at Crocodile Creek; renowned as a travellers’ favourite spot for leaving a message in a bottle. You could also take the helicopter up to Talbot Bay and the Horizontal Waterfalls which are often called the Eighth Wonder of the World by impressed visitors. Begin the cruise towards Broome in the evening.

  • Day 13
    Broome

    This friendly coastal town is home to the famed Cable Beach which was voted Western Australia’s best beach in 2004 and 2005. Pay a visit to this beautiful stretch of sand to soak up some rays before exploring the town and enjoying lunch in one of the many fist-rate seafood restaurants or inviting cafes. Depart for home today or spend the night in the relaxing town.
