Sights
Whale Watching
Victoria is famous for its whale watching opportunities, although tours can also be organised to view British Columbia’s other majestic animals in black bears, dolphins, porpoises, seals and bald eagles.

Shopping
Arts
British Columbia’s relative isolation has made it exceptional for picking up regional arts not found anywhere else in the world. Try Vancouver’s Cowichan Valley or the Gulf Islands for hand-knitted clothing perfect for the cold environment and intricately carved crafts.

Victoria
Victoria is full of quaint shops, local markets and impressive shopping centres that mean strolling the city and exploring the alleyways is the perfect way to discover its shopping heart. Government Street, which stretches from the Inner Harbour is wonderful for European pieces, handmade chocolates and native jewellery and fashion.

Four blocks along is the hidden Trounce Alley and Bastion Square where European fashions and gift shops abound. Also worth a visit is Market Square which offers one of the best selections of specialty shops in town. For antique-hunters, Fort Street is an entire row dedicated to antiques and collectibles.

Vancouver
Vancouver’s shopping areas are spread across the city, from the malls and colourful Robson Street in Downtown to the antique and vintage paradise of Gastown, there is something for everyone. Youthful Yaletown is the place to head for independently owned fashion boutiques while the streets around Hotel Vancouver boast high-end fashion labels like Gucci, Louis Vuitton, St. John, and Tiffany & Co.

Activities
Mountain Biking
For true adventure-seekers, British Columbia is an active paradise. The rugged terrain of the area is perfect for mountain biking, particularly in the Gulf Islands, while the scenic bike paths of Victoria and Vancouver offer a tamer alternative.

Golf
Golfers will find excellent courses in southern Vancouver where its temperate climate make playing conditions ideal for up to 10 months of the year. Fraserview in the east, Langara in the south and McCleery in the southwest are all gorgeous full-length courses. For a truly unforgettable golfing experience, Bear Mountain Golf Resort in Victoria is home to a spectacular Jack Nicklaus designed Mountain Course that strikes the perfect balance between playability and challenge with a backdrop of mountain, city and ocean views. This year also sees the opening of the new Nicklaus designed Valley Course which only increases the allure of this top-class golfing facility.

Skiing
One of the biggest drawing cards of British Columbia is justifiably the luxurious ski resorts that dot the world-class slopes simply perfect for skiing and snowboarding getaways. Charter a private plane and head inland to the famous slopes of Whistler or Big White for a few days on the mountains before heading back to the sanctuary of your yacht. Whistler is only115 km north of Vancouver while Grouse Mountain, Seymour Mountain and Cypress Bowl are all within 30 minutes drive of downtown.

Wine Tours
There are also several fine wineries dotting the region, particularly in the Okanagan Valley and on Vancouver Island. With over 136 wineries to choose from, a private tour of one of these quality establishments is the perfect opportunity to pick-up a liquid souvenir.

Fishing
The cold waters surrounding Vancouver make it an ideal fishing spot for catching salmon only a few kilometres off-shore, or cruising further out brings the opportunity for hauling in halibut and lingcod.

Hang Gliding
Vancouver Island is a wonderful spot to experience the thrill of hang gliding, launching from the majestic Canadian mountains and landing in a soft pasture. Flights are performed tandem with a qualified instructor so you can feel what it likes to fly in safe and professional conditions.

Bites
Lift Bar and Grill
Lift Bar and Grill is set right on the Vancouver seawall, offering spectacular sea views through its massive glass walls. The glass opens to the sea breeze in summer for near-window dining, and the roof terrace is warmed by heaters during the winter. Besides the excellent location, Lift serves up delicious seafood and meat dishes in true gourmet style.
