Discover Privacy in the Heart of Panama

From Panama to Panama

6 Days, 176 Miles

A relatively new yachting hotspot is the Central American country of Panama. On this six day itinerary the distance between each location is relatively short, maximising the time spent onshore and allowing for more in-depth exploration of this intriguing part of the world. From the urban hum of Panama City to the wildlife haven of Isla San Jose, a trip to Panama is guaranteed to be different.

  • Day 1
    40 Miles
    Colon and Panama Canal
    Colon and Panama Canal

More a stop of necessity than anything else, Colon is where you will most probably have to arrive in Panama at the Panama City Airport. Depart from here in the late afternoon, perhaps glimpsing a sight of the Gatun Locks before the sun sets. For an overnight anchorage point, try stopping just off Flamenco Island.

  • Day 2
    8 Miles
    Panama City
    Panama City

Panama City lies on the Pacific side of Panama rather than the Atlantic and is the truly awing side of the grand region. A bustling urban city, the best area of Panama City to explore is the old town areas of Panama la Vieja and Casco Viejo. Onshore you are sure to find a huge variety of enticing International dining options and a range of nice evening haunts. Head back to anchor at Flamenco Island for the night.

  • Day 3
    55 Miles
Panama City – Isla San Telmo
Panama City – Isla San Telmo

Depart early today for the pristine Perlas Islands, unbelievably and blissfully undeveloped. What you will find here is perfect peace and privacy on an island that remains as nature intended. The nature reserve of Isla San Telmo lies at the southern end of the Perlas and by anchoring off the northwest swell is almost non existent. For more space or a place to launch water toys, try Bahia de San Telmo off Isla del Rey, only a few of miles from Isla San Telmo.

  • Day 4
    16 Miles
Isla San Telmo – Isla San Jose
Isla San Telmo – Isla San Jose

Today, head west towards San Jose whose southwest corner offers excellent protection. Onshore can be found a whole menagerie of exciting wildlife from deer and iguanas to anteaters, while rays can nearly always be seen in any one of the many bays.

  • Day 5
    22 Miles
Isla San Jose – Isla Pedro Gonzales – Isla Contadora
Isla San Jose – Isla Pedro Gonzales – Isla Contadora

The hilly island of Pedro Gonzales offers a brilliant soft white beach on the eastern tip and hides some lovely anchorages on its north shore. If you’re feeling adventures, follow one of the trails inland for some scenic walking. Heading back north will bring you to Isla Contadora which is the most developed of the islands. The waters between here and Isla Pedro Gonzales are also excellent for fishing. On Contadora you will find a number of shops and restaurants. Anchor on the south side of the island for the evening.

  • Day 6
    35 Miles
    Isle Contadora – Panama City
    Isle Contadora – Panama City

Before you depart for the short journey back to Panama City, take a tender across to Isla Pacheca which is home only to birds and whale spottings off the north shore are common. The islands of Mogo Mogo and Chapera have wonderful beaches and some great snorkelling sites.
