S&S 56m World Cruising Ketch

This 56 metre World Cruiser sailing yacht concept was designed by the team at Sparkman & Stephens to be a first-class sailing sloop.

Stemming from the success of the 52m Navenin V, Sparkman & Stephens has designed a larger, 56m sibling, the 56m World Cruising Ketch.

The 56M World Cruising ketch maintains the classic, timeless exterior lines so elegantly constructed on Nazenin V. Slightly more rake in her t ransom and increased curvature in the bow profile differentiate her above the waterline.

The yacht will maintain similar hull lines and ship a modern spade rudder; both of which proved well-designed following the 2009 launch and successful season of sailing for Nazenin V.

The increased hull dimensions and desire to carry more sail, coupled with the need to maintain a reasonable draft, have necessitated the utilization of a daggerboard to maintain upwind sailing performance.

Below decks S&S has designed a layout that will accommodate eight guests in four staterooms, all with en suite heads, including a fitness room, plus the owner’s suite aft.

Bruce Johnson, President and Chief Designer at S&S says, “Placing the owner aft, we have been able to utilize the beamier section of the hull to create a modest fitness room which can be converted to accommodate two additional guests. We have also been able to allocate dedicated crew passage, with centrally located laundry, to the accommodations area so that guests are not disturbed by the daily operational requirements of a mega yacht. We find this greatly increases the luxury of the onboard experience.”

Measuring 55.7 metres in length, the luxury yacht has a sail area of approximately 1,200-square metres, a beam of 10.5 metres, and a maximum draft of 7.50 metres.

The 56m World Cruising Ketch has a progressively modern superstructure utilizing a proven hull form. The interior design by Sparkman & Stephens can be suited to the individual client’s taste, incorporating either modern or traditional styling.
