Luiz De Basto, Chief Designer and Founder of De Basto Designs, is expert at excellent exterior and interior design. Having studied architecture in the early 1970s, Luiz soon began his career in designing boats in the 60 to 80 foot fibreglass range. Combining his love for automotive and architecture design, Luiz quickly found success in the superyachting industry by surpassing expectations and taking risks with design, and is now a household name in yachting.
De Basto Designs has laid its creative craftsmanship to some of the most iconic superyachts on the water today. The extraordinary exterior lines of Oceanco's 90m DAR designed by Luiz De Basto has collected an impressive arsenal of awards, including the Best Exterior Design Award at the 2018 Monaco Yacht Show. DAR has set the benchmark for contemporary exterior design, marking a shift away from conventional stacked decks to a more streamlined and elegant profile which can be seen on many modern yachts now. DAR also incorporated a huge amount of glass in her exterior design - close to 400 square metres - revolutioning superyacht exteriors and interiors in a lasting way.
Luiz De Basto also penned the exterior lines of Turquoise Yachts' stunning 53m Tala and Burger Boat's flagship Northland. But his prowess does not end at the exterior; Luiz De Basto is renowned for his unerring ability to combine clean yet sophisticated layouts with rich materials and intricately selected fixtures and fabrics. Interior design has formed a fundamental cornerstone of the studio's services since Luiz designed his first ever yacht project - a 56ft flybridge during his early career in Brazil. Now, Luiz has been responsible for the interior design of DAR, Saluzi, Northland and Tala, to name just a few.
