History
Guido de Groot graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree with honours from the Art Centre College of Design in Pasadena (USA). He worked for more than six years as a car designer in Paris for the French car manufacturer Citroën before launching Guido de Groot Design in 1997.

“Being a car designer gave me an excellent understanding of shapes and services, and a keen sense for 3-D objects,” says Guido. Guido’s passion for yachts began back in 1986 when he saw the fourth “Highlander” close to completion at the Feadship De Vries yard. Awestruck by the majesty of this 45-metre masterpiece, Guido started drawing yachts in parallel with his career in car design. The next decade was spent learning everything there was to know about luxury yachts.

The Guido de Groot Design studios have now expanded to the point that the design team work with an international clientele; collaborating with yards building yachts in Italy, Russia, The Netherlands, Taiwan and Turkey.

Design Process
Each project undertaken by Guido de Groot Design team begins with concept drawings for the client. Carefully hand-drawn sketches and computer generated visuals are prepared to explore possible solutions for the client’s requirements. 3-D models can also be created for exterior designs, to emulate the finished yacht and resolve potential construction issues.

Whether the yacht is traditional, contemporary, or even futuristic, the design team push the boundaries to produce practical and inspiring solutions, driven by the client’s wishes.
