Evolving from a small repair facility into a major industrial shipyard, it has played a key role in Italy’s maritime history—building and converting vessels, supporting naval operations during WWII, and undergoing significant post-war expansion and modernization.

After decades under public ownership and later within Fincantieri, the yard was privatized in 1993 and relaunched with a major investment program. Today, Cantieri del Mediterraneo is one of Italy’s leading shipyards, specializing in ship repair, conversions, and large-yacht refits. It boasts extensive dry-dock and floating-dock capabilities (handling vessels up to 250,000 TDW afloat), advanced workshops, and over 120,000 m² of facilities.

The yard performs comprehensive marine engineering, metalwork, mechanical, electrical, and finishing services in-house, supported by supervised subcontractors. Known for versatility and scale, it remains a vital hub for Mediterranean ship maintenance and transformation.
