1. Force Blue
The year kicked off with a bang as the 63m Royal Denship stunner Force Blue was snapped up for a cool €7,490,000 at an auction despite being valued at around three times the price. Thus far, she remains the largest yacht to be bought at auction this year, made even more notable by the fact that the winner of this auction was none other than the former Formula One head honcho Bernie Ecclestone. The 91 year old's new yacht, listed for sale by Ocean Independence, has an interesting history that he will know all too well about, as it was seized from his friend and former partner Flavio Briatore. Force Blue was delivered in 2002.

2. Lady Moura
Camper & Nicholsons moved incredibly quickly to shift the famous Blohm+Voss yacht Lady Moura. Spending just 554 days on the market the 105m motor yacht became the fastest known sale of any 100+ yacht over the course of the last decade. Built over thirty years ago she remains packed with exciting spaces from a disco to a bakery, Lady Moura will be sure to satisfy her new buyers who can host up to 27 guests.

3. Majesty 175
Emirati yachtbuilder Gulf Craft's innovative world’s largest composite production superyacht was sold to her new owner this year. The 56.4m Majesty 175, renowned for her unique design, was launched in May 2021 in the UAE just months before her purchase. Announced at the Monaco Yacht Show back in 2016, Majesty 175 will be sure to stun yacht-afficionados across the planet as she begins a trend that is predicted to revolutionise the world of yachting.

4. Metaflower
Though at Superyachts.com we typically focus on yachts that sail the high seas, from the Pacific Ocean to the Mediterranean our featured yachts usually voyage on planet earth. However, we could not go without making note of the luxury virtual yacht Metaflower, that was sold on the metaverse for the equivalent of a whopping $650,000 in non-fungible tokens. Whilst we intend to keep our focus on yachts in the real world, we could not ignore this historic sale of this costly digital asset.

5. Octopus
Belonging once upon a time to Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, the 126m custom built yacht was finally sold this year after her asking price was slashed from €295 million to €235 million earlier this year. The Lürssen explorer yacht is reportedly the most costly purchase of the year despite her price reduction and it comes as no surprise given her endless list of impressive credentials. Equipped with a garage for two helicopters, a 10-person submarine and a glass-bottomed underwater observation lounge, the yacht of course demanded such a hefty fee from its new owners.
