Project Akira is the first in the new 57-metre, all-aluminium series of fast yachts. She is built to the most exacting Dutch engineering and quality standards, with an enclosed volume of approximately 780 GT and a lightweight, ultra-efficient Fast Displacement Hull Form.

Designs for the series were first unveiled at the Monaco Yacht Show in 2019, with construction of YN 20457 commencing in February 2022, followed by the official keel-laying, which was witnessed by the American Bureau of Shipping surveyor.

To mark the occasion, four Heesen employees celebrating their 25th anniversary with the shipyard carried out the first welds; a shining example of how Heesen remains one of the few shipyards in the world with the capability to weld such high-performance structures to the required tolerances.

Other milestones for the project include November 2022, which saw the installation of Akira’s two IMO III-compliant MTU 16V 4000 M65L engines. This propulsion package, in conjunction with the super-efficient hull design, will give the vessel a maximum speed of 22 knots. For a superyacht displacing around 490 tonnes at half load, this is rather impressive.

In terms of style and design, Frank Laupman of Omega Architects penned a distinctive profile with sweeping lines and a near-vertical bow, along with an eye-catching scooped stern, giving her a dramatic quayside presence.

Harrison Eidsgaard worked closely with Frank Laupman and Heesen’s in-house engineers to achieve a relaxed, comfortable and purposeful layout. Her owner and guests will have the pleasure of indulging in plenty of outdoor space to take in picturesque views, whilst equally being able to enjoy indoor spaces to socialise and unwind.

Project Akira can host up to twelve guests in six large staterooms, with the 63 sqm owner’s apartment located forward on the main deck. Guests can also find a VIP suite on the bridge deck, with remaining cabins located on the lower deck, all accessed via a stainless-steel elevator which serves all three decks.

Her interior will recieve the bespoke touch of Heesen Yachts Interiors and Heesen’s fine cabinetry workshop in Winterswijk; handcrafting all of her furniture and accompanying decor.

A stunning amalgamation of different colours, textures and furnishings will offer Akira's owners three alternative styles within one overall design, all with the aim of inspiring them to build a look that reflects their own personal taste and lifestyle.

Project Akira remains on schedule and is available for delivery in time to enjoy the 2024 summer season.
