Jamaica by Day

Explore Jamaica By Day...

For a day spent ashore, these are the places to be pampered, the sights to see, the shopping districts to delve into, and the activities to indulge in.

Head to San San, located near the pristine shores of Port Antonio, for the ultimate in Jamaican wellness experiences. Here is located the exclusive insider escape of Geejam, a unique five-star hideaway combining all the comforts of home with authentic Jamaican culture in the heart of the rainforest. Beauty treatments are performed using fresh daily ingredients and a dizzying range of sensuous massages and aromatherapy experiences are available.

Of all Jamaica’s attractive sights, the most spectacular are its glittering beaches, the best of which can be found in Negril. The most famous is Seven Mile Beach, which apart from its delightful shoreline ending in dramatic cliffs, has excellent dining and shopping facilities. Frenchman’s Cove in Port Antonio offers the best tanning opportunities, while for a quieter, more rustic beach experience, spend the day on Jamaica’s south coast and visit the black, sandy bays of Treasure Beach.

A scattering of designer labels can be found in the boutiques of the premier hotels, but shopping in Jamaica is more a treasure trove of local handicrafts including one-off jewellery designs and handmade souvenirs. In Montego Bay, try Old Fort Craft Park or the Crafts Market near Harbour Street for a memorable piece of Jamaican art, while Rutland Point Market in the north of Negril boast an impressive range of wood designs.

Goldeneye Visit
Located in Oracabessa, near Ocho Ríos, is the former home of James Bond writer Ian Fleming, turned ultra- luxury resort, Goldeneye. The place where Fleming crafted his glamorous hero is located in one of the more secluded areas of Jamaica, and offers a number of exclusive activities in the tropical forests and calm waters of its nearby surroundings. Visitors can interact with dolphins in the aptly titled Dolphin Cove, a natural sea cove that is home to a family of these fascinating creatures. Children in particular can enjoy a unique underwater experience and hand-feed a giant stingray.

Blue Lagoon
Accessible only by boat, the Blue Lagoon is the ultimate beach hideaway, and an idyllic way to spend a morning. So deep that many claim it is bottomless, the cove swirls with water from a nearby mineral spring. Watch the waters change fabulous shades of mesmerising blue and green as you enjoy a traditional Jamaican breakfast of tropical fruits and bathe in the warmth of the Caribbean sun from the comfort of the deck.

Jamaica’s northwest corner is a golfer’s heaven, where the area surrounding Montego Bay offers six picturesque 18-hole courses, three of which are famous championship greens. White Witch at Rose Hall, Tryall Club and Half Moon, which impressively hosts a David Leadbetter Golf Academy, are all located within a few kilometres on Montego Bay and offer visitors golf at its finest.

YS Falls
Compared to the colourful north coast, Jamaica’s south is relatively undiscovered, and for enjoying activities without the crowds is an excellent option. The YS falls, located near the intriguing Black River, is a 36 metre cascading waterfall located on a privately owned estate. Unlike the busier Dunn’s River Falls on the north coast, the YS falls are unspoilt and besides the footpaths leading from the falls to the natural pools below, remain in pristine natural condition.

Crocodile Cruise
While on the south coast, a tour along The Black River is an excellent chance to encounter the endangered American Crocodile. As home to over 300 of these intriguing animals, the Black River offers a unique opportunity to admire them in their natural habitat and witness their fascinating feeding and hunting habits others rarely see.

Sail south to Treasure Beach, one of Jamaica's experienced fishermen in tow, and drop a line in the dark waters for an excellent day's fishing. With the southerly waters practically over-flowing with big-game and unusual fish species, an afternoon is sure to produce some generous rewards.
