Bang & Olufsen Unveil $20,000 TV-Turned-Sculpture
Danish high-end audio makers Bang & Olufsen have unveiled a new television set featuring rotating panel speakers that partially cover the screen when not in use, giving it an almost sculptural appearance.
Called the BeoVision Harmony, the TV debuted at the 2019 Milan Design Week currently taking place in the Italian city.
The latest BeoVision TV takes the sculptural design of the BeoVision Eclipse to a new level with its mechanical, rotating panel speakers. On switching on the television, the transformation begins with panels fanning out and the TV screen lifting upwards into the viewing position.
“The presence of a big screen is rarely a welcoming addition to living spaces,” said Bang & Olufsen executive vice-president of brand and markets John Mollanger.
“With Beovision Harmony, we wanted to create a meaningful object for interior that reduces the visual presence of the TV and transforms it into something that people will develop an emotional attachment to.”
The grading pattern on the front of the speaker panel is designed to optimise acoustic performance, while the unique visual pattern is made with alternating bands of oak and aluminium.
The BeoVision Harmony is also available with two-tone grey fabric and aluminium covers, instead of a wood finish.
It is equipped with 7.1 surround sound decoder and can connect up to eight Beolab speakers.
The BeoVision Harmony will be available in Bang & Olufsen stores starting in October, with a price-tag of around $20,800.
