60-Year-Old Macallan Whiskeys Set to Fetch $500k at Auction

Two highly sought after whiskies are to go under the hammer in Hong Kong in May, with experts predicting them to fetch an eye-popping price of anything up to $500,000.

Bottled over 30 years ago, the Macallan Peter Blake 1926 60-Year-Old and the Macallan Valerio Adami 1926 60-Year-Old are both one of just 12 examples each that were bottled with labels featuring a vintage design by pop-artist Peter Blake and Valerio Adami.

Blake and Adami are both hugely successful pop artists with the former being credited with co-creating the Beatles’ album cover for Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, while, the latter is acclaimed for his signature bold, flat forms outlined in thick, black lines.

The bottles will be presented in cabinets, or tantaluses, that reference the ‘brass and glass’ distillery spirit safe designs.

Daniel Lam, head of fine wine and whisky at Bonhams in Hong Kong, said: “These bottles are incredibly rare. The exceptional calibre of the whisky combined with the wonderful artwork from two towering figures of 20th century pop art – Peter Blake and Valerio Adami – represent a unique marriage of excellence.

"Only 24 of these bottles were produced and the sale is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for collectors to acquire the holy grail of Macallan.”

The whiskies will be auctioned off at Bonhams on 18 May, where they will be joined by other fine wines and spirits.
