Alladale: A World Class Wilderness Reserve in the Heart of the Scottish Highlands

By Paul Joseph

Alladale estate, a luxurious wilderness reserve deep in the Scottish Highlands, is now available to guests on an ‘exclusive use’ basis.

Set within 23,000 acres covering 5 glens, 2 river systems, and 10 hill lochs, the estate’s lavish, 7-bedroom lodge is now available to families, groups of friends or corporate ‘away days’ for £7,500 per week.

Services and amenities at the estate include a sauna, fully equipped gym, billiard room, boardroom with state-of-the-art home cinema equipment and complimentary mountain bikes.

One of Europe's truly unique wilderness reserves, Alladale’s verdant surroundings allows guests to connect with nature through activities such as trout fishing, deer stalking, clay pigeon shooting, pony trekking and hiking. Further afield is the Glenmorangie whisky distillery, where whisky tasting sessions are held, and Dunrobin Castle, home to the Duke of Sutherland.

Alladale and its philanthropist owner Paul Lister are also prominent supporters of the growing trend for ‘rewilding’ – the process of reintroducing locally extinct species to landscapes in an attempt to restore an area’s bio-diversity.

Mr Lister, who is a founder of TENT (The European Nature Trust), has already brought red squirrels back to Alladale, as well as implementing a programme of native forest tree planting, and has plans for further rewilding efforts in the near future, including reinstating Scottish wildcats.
