Among the array of striking pieces on display at the recent Salone de Mobile furniture fair in Milan was a lavish bed priced at a cool £100,000.

Made by Swedish family-run company Hästens, renowned for creating expensive and luxurious beds, the ‘Vividus’ bed was crafted by specially selected artisans who invested 320 hours into its creation.

Upholstered with the brand’s signature blue checkered fabric, it features a vast number of high quality materials including hand-sewn layers of horsehair and cotton and redwood pine bed frame from northern Sweden.

Jan-Erik Leander, Master Craftsman of the Vividus, said: “Vividus is a unique project for craftsmen, enabling them to work daily with techniques that have been practised and developed for more than 160 years.

“To be part of a team making the world’s best bed is a prestigious assignment that few people are privileged to be a part of.”

“It is a bed made without compromises in materials, time or craftsmanship. We cherish each bed from start to finish like a part of our own family. I believe that is what gives Vividus a soul and character of its own.”

The Vividus was on display at Salone de Mobile between 4 – 9 April.
