Art Basel 2018 to Feature Work by Sanlorenzo Yachts

By Paul Joseph

The 2018 edition of Art Basel, one of the world’s most prestigious art fairs, is less than two weeks away and anticipation is mounting ahead of the high profile event, which draws some of the biggest names from the global contemporary arts community.

Among those in attendance at the show will be a renowned name from the world of luxury yachting, the acclaimed Italian shipyars Sanlorenzo.

As part of their 60th anniversary celebrations, Sanlorenzo will be bringing  with them an eye-catching  installation  that  pays  tribute  to legendary Italian artist  Emilio  Isgrò.

The yacht builder has always maintained a strong affinity with the world of art, engaging in several  collaborations  with  important  galleries  and  cultural  institutions down the years, including Milan’s  Triennale,  and  with  Galleria  Tornabuoni  Arte,  with  which  it  has  set  up  exhibitions  on  its  own  yachts,  for  Art  Basel  Miami  Beach  in  2016.

Now the company are further strengthening their penchant for  art by producing their very own piece for the 2018’s Art Basel.

The installation features an  ethereal,  suspended  space  whose  perimeter  is  marked  by  erasures reproduced  on  its  walls.  Meanwhile a  sea  made  up  of  lines,  signs,  words  through  which  models  of  Sanlorenzo  superyachts,  displayed  inside  glass  cases, appears to surround the  work  “I  viaggi  della  mente” (“The  travels  of  the  mind”), which  appears at the  centre  of  the  work.

The installation will be on display at the  Collectors  Lounge throughout the show, which run from 14-17 June.
