Audi to Launch New Spyder Convertible

German car-maker Audi is to debut its new R8 GT Spyder convertible at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

The new soft-top Spyder model was unveiled early last month and is now open to pre-orders both online and at Audi dealerships.

Limited to just 333 models worldwide, each car will come with an individual number on the gear lever knob.

The revamped R8 is 85kg lighter than its predecessor, the Audi R8 V10 Spyder, thanks to the removal of the roof and the addition of carbon fibre reinforced polymer body parts.

With the reduced weight, it can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 317 km/h using a 5.2-litre V10 engine developing 560 PS.

Audi claims that the lightweight fabric soft-top is extremely quiet, and can be raised or lowered in 19 seconds at speeds of up to 50 km/h.

The car’s interior includes a Bang & Olufsen stereo system, DVD-based satellite navigation and a driver information system featuring built-in lap times.

The new Spyder is expected to cost around €207,800 (£186,000).
