Baccarat CEO Daniela Riccardi On Fusing Heritage With Modernity

By Paul Joseph

According to Daniela Riccardi, CEO of legendary crystal maker Baccarat, the brand’s decision to enter the world of luxury hotels was a return to its natural habitat.

Earlier this year Baccarat opened a stunning new hotel in the heart of New York City, featuring several pieces from the brand’s archives as well as newly commissioned work from the crystal experts.

“It’s been a wonderful project,” she told us at the 2015 Monaco Yacht Show, where Baccarat were exhibitors.

“I think there’s a lot of passion to bring the brand into modernity. Baccarat has 250 years of history so sometimes you can think it’s an old boring brand, but if you’ve ever had a chance to be in the [New York] hotel you see how beautiful it is to bring the heritage into the modernity of today, into this world of luxury hospitality.

“For a brand like Baccarat it’s almost like our natural environment. To be in the palaces ad castles, luxury living was the natural place where the brand started and I think it evolved through the time and it’s landing in its perfect place for the century that we live."
