By Paul Joseph

Crystal makers Baccarat are to turn their craftsmanship skills to creating a luxury hotel and condo tower in midtown Manhattan, New York.

Situated on W. 53rd St. close to New York’s world famous Museum of Modern Art, the Baccarat Hotel & Residences will feature homes ranging in price from $3.5 million for a one-bedroom to $60 million for a duplex penthouse.

The hotel, which will boast 26 suites, will be dotted with Baccarat crystal including a crystal bar with a Parisian terrace, chandeliers hanging from 40-foot ceilings and custom-made bronze sparkling with crystal.

The tower has been designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, the same architecture firm behind One World Trade Center.

Founded in 1764, Baccarat have been owned by Barry Sternlicht, one of America’s most renowned financiers, since 2005. Sternlicht also owns Starwood Hotels and the W brand.

The cost of the project is said to top $400 million, with completion expected in late 2014.
