Backes & Strauss Create Diamond Jubilee Regent Watch Collection

By Paul Joseph

Historical London diamond company Backes & Strauss last month launched a limited edition collection of timepieces to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Limited to 60 pieces, the Diamond Jubilee Regent Collection boasts diamonds hand set into 18-karat white gold. The watches are available in two sizes (40mm and 32mm), and with a choice of one or two rows of ideal cut round brilliant diamonds.

The side of each watch case is engraved with “1952-2012”, representing the period the Queen has reigned, whilst the whilst the back is engraved with “Queen’s Diamond Jubilee” with a year from HM’s reign as the serial number. The back of each piece is open, enabling the decorated movement to be viewed.

Backes & Strauss were granted permission by Buckingham Palace to use the Queen’s Royal Cypher in the design of the collection. Other notable features include a royal purple alligator skin strap with an 18kt white gold ardillon diamond set buckle.

Founded in 1798, Backes & Strauss pieces are typically inspired by the styles of London’s Regency period of 1811-1820, when Prince Regent became George IV on the death of his father.

The Diamond Jubilee Regent Collection is available from select retailers around the world, including Harrods in London, priced between £34,300 and £90,000.
