Hot on the heels of last month’s news that Luxury Asian hotel group Banyan Tree is to create a luxury residential property in the Chinese city of Chengdu, is the announcement that the brand will open its first ever resort in India.

Located on the secluded, private island of Nediyathuruthu in the southern state of Kerala, the resort is slated to open by the first quarter of 2013 as the latest in the group’s global offerings.

It will incorporate 59 villas, each with a private swimming pool, and decorated with traditional furnishings and elaborate woodwork.

Other notable amenities will include a wellness centre, an exercise room, a yoga room, a library and a children’s club, three restaurants and a pool bar.

For adventurous guests, sports such as climbing and archery can be found on an island positioned just five minutes from the resort by boat, whilst at night a private boat is available for guests to go site seeing.

The Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts Group was founded in 1996. It currently manages or has ownership interests in over 20 resorts and hotels, 60 spas, 70 retail galleries, and 3 golf courses across the world.
