BaselWorld 2015: The Highlights Reel

By Paul Joseph

It’s that time of year again when the watch world descends on the Swiss city of Basel for a 7-day festival of all things horological.

This year’s BaselWorld event kicked off last week and is currently at full throttle, hosting around 1,500 brands from 40 different countries along with tens of thousands of watch enthusiasts from across the world.

As always, the show is proving a hotbed of cutting edge trends and innovative designs, with brands showcasing their latest creations in front of a passionate crowd of watch lovers, global media and key industry professionals.

To give you a taste of the BaselWorld action, here is a rundown of just some of the most eye-catching watches to have been unveiled at this year’s show.

DeGrisogono Instrument Carbon Chron
High jewellery brand DeGrisogono has used BaselWorld to launch the Instrument Carbon Chron, which sandwiches a layer of super luminous below its black dial to increase luminosity for several hours. Without question one of the most striking watches on show in Basel.

Rolex Yachtmaster
The all new black/gold Yachtmaster by Rolex is a 37mm model in black and 18-karat everose gold and is fitted exclusively with the innovative Oysterflex bracelet. Another stunning launch by the iconic British watchmaker.

Louis Vuitton Escale Timezone
The latest offering from Louis Vuitton is billed as the thinnest world time watch on the market. But its USP is the colourful hand-painted dial which shows the time in 24 different time zones along with its crown that can be set to point at the time in your home city. Typical creative brilliance from the famous French fashion house.

Patek Philippe Calatrava Pilot Travel Time
The first pilot's watch produced by Patek Philippe since the 1930s, this new creation boasts a striking rich, textured blue dial. Other notable features include a travel time movement with a fully adjustable GMT-hand and Superluminova-filled Arabic hour markers housed in white gold.

Graff Diamond Mastergraff Grand Date Dual Time Tourbillon
Perhaps the most ostentatious looking watch at BaselWorld, the Graff Diamond Mastergraff Grand Date Dual Time Tourbillon houses a dazzling setting of 329 diamonds totalling 13.7 carats, making it the ultimate harmonisation of Haute Horlogerie and Haute Joaillerie.

All of the above watches can be seen at BaselWorld until the show closes on March 26th.
