BMW Launch 2020 8-Series Gran Coupe

German high-end carmaker BMW has revealed its new 8-series Gran Coupe, further expanding the grand tourer’s line-up.

The 2020 BMW 8-series Gran Coupe is being billed as a more practical, four-door-coupe version of the two-door 8-series.

While the front of the car looks near identical to its forerunner, the Grand Coupe features a distinct bodywork behind the A-pillar.

To fit a bigger cabin that seats 5 people, the Gran Coupe’s wheelbase has been stretched 7.9 inches, while the overall length has been increased by 9 inches. In addition, the rear track has also grown by 1.2 inches, making it the widest track of any BMW car.

The brand has launched three variants of the Grand Coupe: the rear-wheel-drive 840i and 840i xDrive are both powered by BMW’s 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six that produces 335 hp and 368 lb-ft torque, while the M850i xDrive gets the same 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 as the M8, which churns out 523 hp and 553 lb-ft.

In terms of design elements that are different in the Gran Coupe, the rake of the windscreen is slightly more upright to accommodate the taller roof, which has been added for greater headroom on the inside.

The 840i and 840i xDrive both feature Vernasca leather in either Black, Ivory White or Cognac, while the M850i gets Individual Extended Merino Leather, available in Black, Ivory White, Cognac or two-tone options Night Blue/Black, Tartufo/Black or Fiona Red/Black.

All three variants will be available at dealers from September, with pricing starting at $84,900 for the 840i Gran Coupe, $87,800 for the 840i xDrive Gran Coupe, and $108,900 for the M850i xDrive.
