Bronze Timepiece a First for Panerai

By P. Joseph

When the Luminor Submersible Bronzo was unveiled at the prestigious SIHH watch show in Geneva last month, it marked the latest in a long line of beautiful Panerai timepieces.

But it also represented a landmark first for the 150-year-old Italian company – being the first time it has produced a bronze watch.

Hailed as a stand out piece for this year, the underwater watch is based on a model made by Officine Panerai more than half a century ago for the commandos of the Egyptian Navy.

The new Limited Edition piece is actually made of bronze, which acquires an aged appearance over time through the patina that covers it, making each example unique and personalised.

Protected by a sapphire crystal, the dial has skeleton hands which are highly luminous, the little dials of the small seconds at 9 o’clock and, in a symmetrical position, the window with the date.

It is completed by a leather strap, offering an appearance similar to that of the period models and fitted with a personalised titanium buckle.

The piece is limited to 1,000 units.
