The recent Pebble Beach Car Week that took place in California was more than just an orgy of automotives – the event also featured a high profile sale of jewellery and watches, hosted by auction house Bonhams.

In keeping with the show’s main source of interest, many of the pieces had an automobile theme, including a diamond and 18k gold Rolls Royce radiator wristwatch sold for $7,076, a pair of Michael Kanners’ moonstone, rock crystal, onyx and diamond car cufflinks ($3,660) and an 18k gold Rolls Royce belt buckle ($3,050).

The sale, which took place on August 19th at Quail Lodge in Carmel, California, also saw the purchase of several impressive watches, including a stainless steel and 18k gold Rolex sold for $6,344, a Giotto Buti 18k white gold automatic chronograph wristwatch ($6,100) and a Panerai Luminor titanium automatic calendar diver’s wristwatch ($6,100).

Deborah Boskin, Jewelry Specialist at Bonhams & Butterfields, said of the sale: "The astute buyers at the Quail Lodge prove the ongoing strength of the luxury jewellery market.

"Signed jewellery and watches continue to bring premium prices."

The highest selling item of jewellery at the Bonhams event was a blue and green tourmaline and diamond necklace that yielded $10,980.
