By Paul Joseph

The first ever convertible Chevrolet Corvette Z06 has arrived on the American market – said to be one of the most powerful production cars currently available.

Featuring a new LT4 supercharged 6.2L V-8 engine, the 2015 Corvette Z06 – also available as a hardtop – boasts an impressive 650 horsepower (485 kW) at 6,400 rpm and 650 lb-ft of torque (881 Nm) at 3,600 rpm.

The impressive performance figures continue with news that the car accelerates to 60 mph from rest in just 2.95 seconds.

Other notable features include an eight-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission and a removable roof panel thanks to a strengthened aluminium frame.

Prices for the Z06 start at $78,995 for the hardtop model, while the convertible kicks off at $83,995.

The Chevrolet Corvette is manufactured by the Chevrolet division of General Motors. The car has been produced through seven generations, with the first model, a convertible introduced in 1953 as a concept show car.
