Chopard Launches “World’s Most Expensive Sunglasses”

By Paul Joseph

Iconic Swiss jewellery house Chopard is to launch a new set of sunglasses billed as the most expensive ever produced.

Designed for Chopard by Italian high-end sunglasses experts De Rigo Vision, the new sunglasses are made of 60 grams of 24 carat gold and decorated with 51 full-cut 4 carat River diamonds.

A special technique was employed to set the diamonds so that the stones are set more closely together than with a classic pavé setting, creating a carpeted pattern that lets out a distinctive light. Chopard’s famous ‘C’ logo appears on the arms of the glasses.

The lavish glasses will be showcased at The One and Only Royal Mirage luxury resort in Dubai today.

A number of high profile celebrities, including musicians Elton John and Tom Jones, as well as actress Gweneth Paltrow have taken to wearing Chopard glasses over the years.

An official price for the new glasses has yet to be announced, but industry reports have suggested an estimate of around $400,000.
