Continental GT Speed coupe “Fastest Bentley Ever”

By P. Joseph

British car-maker Bentley has unveiled what is billed as its fastest production model ever.

A pre-production model of the new Continental GT Speed coupe was on display at last week’s Goodwill Festival of Speed in West Sussex, UK.

The all-wheel-drive GT Speed features a range of mechanical and styling upgrades – most notably an up-rated version of the 6-litre twin turbocharged W12 engine.

The augmented engine gains 49hp and 74 lb-ft over the regular Bentley Continental GT, enabling the car to shoot from 0-60 mph in 4.0 seconds and reach maximum speeds of 205 mph.

Performance is also enhanced by a new 8-speed automatic ZF transmission with close-ratio gears, which enables faster gear changes as well as helping improve fuel economy and CO2 emissions.

Other notable features include an augmented chassis with uprated steering and suspension systems and a lowered ride height, bespoke 21-inch alloy wheels available in two finishes, and ultra-high performance tires.

Sales of the new Bentley Continental GT Speed will commence in October 2012.
