David Ostrander Discusses Artisan Interior Design

Superyacht SnowbirD is an outstanding vessel which was launched by Hakvoort in 2011 and delivered just last month.

The project, which was originally commissioned by another party, was bought by the Ostrander family after the original owner ran into financial troubles, leaving an impressively styled yacht on the outside, but with a blank canvas on the inside.

David Ostrander took to the interior of SnowbirD with his Art Advisor, Todd Hutchinson, using a number of peices from his own collection to create a beautiful interior with flawless taste.

Hung on rich wood walls, complemented perfectly by dark wood flooring and an excellent choice of rug and carpeting, the design is accentuated by a number of crucial works of art throughout the yacht.

“The whole nexus for this interior was this art collection which has been compiled from early modern, early twentieth century art all the way up to very current, very contemporary, cutting edge type of emerging artists that I put together with my families art advisor, Todd Hutchinson”, explains David.

“We spent around 10 days on the boat measuring every wall and finding pieces from a private collection, first hand and second hand market to build the interior around.”

The unique elements on board, including the art work in which the interior is designed around, is a work of art from the iconic modern artist Roy Lichtenstein named “Shipboard Girl”, alongside a beautifully styled leather ‘Gamecube’ - a cube with each side hosting different board games such as Clue, Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit, Backgammon, Chess and Scrabble.
