Dolce & Gabbana Create Mahogany Headphones

By Paul Joseph

Italian fashion house Dolce & Gabbana have teamed up with Brooklyn-based headphone makers Grado Labs to create a luxurious pair of mahogany headphones.

Based on the Grado Reference Series, the DS2012 headphones were hand-made using a specific kind of precious mahogany wood to produce, according to its makers, a unique sound signature.

Grado Labs, who were inducted into the Audio Hall of Fame in 1982, say that the headset features “open-air” technology for a clean sound reproduction for both high and low frequency bands, while its cushion design creates a ‘room’ for the ears to sit, generating a larger soundstage and greater spatial experience for the listener.

Wood has become the material of choice for many high-end audio manufacturers, with Antonio Meze and Audio-Technica both producing wooden headphones in recent years.

The new collaborative headphones from D&G and Grado Labs are priced at $1,250 (£775).
